Renny J’s Music News
The following will be regular and constant updates regarding news in the music & world of Renny J!
** Looking For A Publisher…**
For those who didn’t know, I’m writing a book called “Menace Outta Lindsay… A True Story Of Terror, Violence & Contrition“, and it’s based upon my life. It’s not the nicest reading in the world, but it does keep you going for those who like to read Non-Fiction. Highlights & excerpts from the book are currently being posted in a blog by the same title name. Click Here to check it out!
The Band Thoramay (w/ Renny J on Bass) Playing The House Of Blues in Anaheim, CA (Disneyland)…w/ Several Dates to Foloow (March 30th, 2011)…
Yes, the band Thoramay (the Alternative Rock Band I currently play bass guitar in) is playing the House Of Blues in Anaheim, CA (Disneyland) on March 30th, 2011. What an incredible venue to play with an incredible array of musicians! Looking forward to playing there with Wayne G., Nat “The Brat”, & Thoramay herself!
Renny J Was Asked To Play Bass For The Band Of Singer “Sade”, Who Was Performing In San Diego (July /2010)…
Yes, I was asked to play bass guitar for her band, but I had to turn it down. I asked them for a Set List of songs, and they sent me approximately 37 songs that I had to learn in less than 3 weeks. 3 Weeks!! I’m sorry, but as good as I am, there’s no way I’d be able to learn that many new music (I was only familiar with a couple of Sade songs anyway) in such a short period of time. I refuse to go on stage & look like a fool no matter what opportunity it was.
Thanks To All Those That Came Out To The Whiskey A Go-Go On Monday Night (8-24-09) To Support Renny J & Ghetto Songbird Along w/ Her Roxsploitation Band… (August 27, 2009)
Yeah, Renny J wants to thank all those people that came out that night. It was a wonderful & exciting time. Ghetto Songbird is one of the most exciting guitar players I ever played with, and her Roxsploitation Band was just an incredible array of talent not seen in a long time! Chris Nelson on Keyboards & Ronin Ali on Drums (each of whom have their own CD available now!) rounded out the phat sound of this great Philly Band. As well as being great individuals themselves, those 3 together bring about a talent rarely seen live! Be sure to check out some of the photos available on the “Friend’s Photos“ Page and a video to be coming soon!
Personally, I wish I could play with them on a permanent basis, as they have all the talent & energy that’s encompassed in a stick of dynamite. Be sure to check them out if you’re ever in the friendly city of Philadelphia, PA, and make sure you tell them Renny J sent you!

Renny J Does Walk-On & Plays Bass On Stage w/ Country Rock Band “Lonestar” At The “Temecula Balloon & Wine Festival”! (June 5, 2008)
It’s True!!! I went to the Temecula Balloon & Wine Festival where I did some Wine Tasting (for the very first time, mind you!) and did V.I.P. Security, escorting & taking the artists that were there around the area (i.e., Lonestar, Patty Smyth & Scandal, Jefferson Starship, Survivor, etc.). Here’s an anecdote for you… while taking Lonestar around, I had told them about my having previously played with Parliament, and later while they were on stage, they wanted to hear this “Funky Bass Player” play & called me up to the stage and play with them. After playing for a few, we closed by playing the song, “Play That Funky Music” (by Wild Cherry). Of course, this threw everyone by surprise, and let me add this, don’t be fooled by this Country Band at all, these guys are real “Funksters”! I had a great time seeing an old buddy of mine, Patty Smyth guitarist Keith Mack & Patty Smyth herself (she’s from Brooklyn, NY too!).Renny J Signs On With The Tiger Avenue Band As Their Bass Guitarist After Surprising Audition! (April 27, 2008)
It’s True!!! I signed on as the newest addition to the incredibly talented group, the Tiger Avenue Band. These cats are one of the most talented group of musicians I ever came across. After an audition was had recently (the drummer, Scott states he had wanted to get with me for quite a while), along with another guitarist “Julio, the getting together was as if everyone had played with each other for years! To listen to those auditioned songs, Click the following, Song 1, Song 2, Song 3, & Song 4, in order to hear snippets of this audition (yeah, they recorded it… and it was just me, the guitarist, who also was auditioning, & Scott, the drummer). There is certainly more to come from this incredibly talented band, which includes one of the most prolific drummers I ever played with, but I’ll let you decide for yourself how talented this man (Scott) is after listening to us. Keep in mind that this was the very first time we’ve ever played together! I’ll Keep You Posted!

Two (2) New Songs Added To The Music Page! (October 7, 2008)
As mentioned previously, I recently hooked up with an incredible singer / songwriters named Myah! She’s finished two (2) more songs that I think are straight FIRE! They are “Imagine That” and “Something New“, both done to the music of Renny J & Jason “Kursewerd” Varner. These are some incredible songs and they just seem to keep getting better & better. Enjoy them both!
Renny J Guest Appear with “Javelyn” at the Unurban Cafe & The Talking Stick! (October 5, 2008)
Hey there everyone! I’ve been asked and have appeared with the incredible artist “Javelyn” to play alongside her. Javelyn is an artist with 3 Rocky Music Awards under her belt and numerous others that are too many to mention. I’ve known Javelyn for about 10 years, and played with her a couple of times. I was hooked on her music and wanted to play with her ever since, and now I’m excited about the opportunity. Who knows where it’ll lead! Check her website out, “www.Javelyn.net“, and see what else she’s got going on! Both venues are The Unurban Cafe (every 3rd Saturday) & The Talking Stick (every 1st Friday), and they’re a great place to hang out and have some java! Check’em out and let me know what you thought!
Seven (7) New Songs Added To The Music Page! (September 5, 2008)
I recently hooked up with some incredible singer & songwriters, as I mentioned previously, and I now have added seven (7) new songs to the Music Page. They’re the work of me & Forte’ and me & Kursewerd. These are some incredible songs and they just seem to keep getting better! Be sure to check the Music page out and give them a listen. Let me know what you think!
Renny J Teams Up With A Some Up & Coming Singers From Southern California, “Myah!”, “Elliot “Forte’” Mckenzie” & “Eddie Stockley“, To Collaborate With On Current & Future Music Projects! (July 29, 2008)
I recently hooked up with some incredible singer & songwriters! One is “Myah!“, and we have already written 3 songs together, “The Moment I Met You“, “Why’d You Have To Go (What’re We Doing)“, and “Erase Me“. She has a unique & super vocalization range, and she’s gonna be a top-notch songwriter & is a great lyricist! We have several other songs pending right now, so listen out for more from me and Myah! The others are Elliot Mckenzie, and you can hear him on the song, “Your Know How” with his Kieth Sweat type vocals, and Eddie Stockley, 3 time Grammy winner crooner! He’ll have you relaxed with his smooth vocals. I’ll keep you posted on those as they develop.
Renny J Receives Honorary Mention for 2 Inland Empire Music Awards Nominations (July 12, 2008)
I received an Honorary Mention for my 2 Inland Empire Music Awards nominations from the people that sponsor the event. Check out what it is…
and to my surprise, Track # 1 is me and my song, “Why’d You have To Go“! Thank you for all those that have supported me!
L.A. Radio Station KROQ, Requests Music From Renny J For Their “Locals ONLY!” Radio Broadcast (June 14, 2008)
I received a phone call from Catherine (Kat Corbett), the DJ and Star of the Los Angeles Radio Station, KROQ’s “Local’s ONLY!“, and she had just recently listened to the newly released compilation CD, “L.A. Music Scene 2008“, and asked if I would submit three songs to her to be considered for an upcoming broadcast show. Of course I did with no problem! Listen out for the broadcast, which airs every Sunday @ 9 p.m. I’ll keep everyone posted on what happens!
New Compilation CD, “L. A. Music Scene 2008″, Released… And For 3 Consecutive Years Is Still Featuring The Music Of Renny J! (June 4, 2008)
The Newest Compilation CD, “L. A. Music Scene, 2008″, is now released! For the third year in a row, it features the music of Renny J! The featured song is “Brooklyn Hop”. The song has been a long time coming and Vantage Records picked up once again another sure-shot. Be sure to check it out. If you’d like a copy of the CD, just e-mail me at “RennyJ58@yahoo.com”, with your request, name and mailing address and I’ll be sure to get a copy to you.
To give a brief three year history on this compilation CD, in late 2005, I was approached by my producer, Dave Waterbury, who had close ties with Vantage Records, and asked if I could supply them with two songs I had recently recorded. After agreeing and submitting my music, they asked for another song. I was told that this was the first time they ever had three songs by one artist on their compilation CD. That was L.A. Music Scene 2006. I was asked for two songs on the next compilation CD, L.A. Music Scene 2007, and this year was asked again for a song. If you’d like a copy of any of the previous compilation CD’s, again just e-mail me with your request, name & mailing address and I’ll ship them to you right away!
New CD, “Lindsay Park Redeux”, Almost Completed (May 14, 2008)
The upcoming CD, “Lindsay Park Redeux 4 U“, is almost finished! There are a few delays, such as finalizing the CD cover, and the Track Listing, but some of the songs to be featured on the CD are “Her”, “Lindsay Park Redeux”, “When Am I To Dream”, & Lemme Hit Dat Groove 4 U”. Some of these songs were on the original debut CD, but they’re now re-done, and some sound completely different in their new packaging. These songs and others can be heard on the “My Music” page.
I’m also adding a track that features me playing drums when I was 13 years old, my dad on the trumpet, my step-sister Cookie on the guitar, and Tony Lindsay on the Congas. The interesting part of this ensemble is that I wrote, produced, directed and arranged the entire recording. Forgive what sounds like a vaunt, but I thought it was rather amazing that such an event took place in itself. I taught Cookie how and what to play, I showed Tony what to play and how, and believe it or not, I asked my dad to play something specific, and it all came together wonderfully! This track should be added shortly. Enjoy!
New Music Re-Done By Renny J Just Added To The Music Page! (May 04, 2008)
I finally finished the bass song I always wanted to do. The most recent song I did, “Bass Song”, was completed today, and I added keyboards, guitar & percussion to the song. I think it sounds incredible, give me your opinion! it was just as quickly requested and placed on a compilation CD that comes out every year. More on that when that CD is released. For now, enjoy the new song now called, “Brooklyn Hop“, which will be featured on the upcoming CD called, “Lindsay Park Redux“. Hope to hear from you all soon.
More New Music By Renny J Just Added To The Music Page! (April 26, 2008)
Once again, I just recently added some new music to my Music Page. I have lots of songs that I’ve recorded in the studio but just never put any final touches on them or never finished mixing them down. These new songs are the result of the finality of completing them. The names of those songs are “When Am I To Dream“, a mellow Hip Hop taste of R&B. The other is something I just called “Another Fresh Beat“. I don’t normally put up or post beats, but this one was pretty much completed and I think I’ve finished it totally. I hope you like them. As always, feel free to leave a comment about what you think.
New Music Just Added To The Music Page! (April 11, 2008)
I just recently added some new music to my Music Page. The names of those songs are “Bass Song” and “Wonderment!” Just a couple of new songs I’d been working on. I had always wanted to do a song that was primarily focused on the bass guitar, so here is the first step, “Bass Song“! Later, I’ll be adding some keyboards & Rhythm guitar to it to spice it up a little further. The other song, “Wonderment“, came about while experimenting with some different sounds. I hope you all enjoy them, and feel free to go to the Music Page and check out all the other songs as well!
New Television Show is Using Music By Renny J (March 29, 2008)
Yes, I just received notification via e-mail that some music of mine is being used for a new television show. The name of the t.v. show is called “The Odyssey Years”. That is about all I know about it right now, but you can go to the site and listen to the scene that is using the music. Click Here to check it out. It’s about at the five minute mark. Of course, this is Post Production and not final. They want to use more music, so I’ll be sure to keep everyone updated.
Orange County Music Awards Nomination… (March 6, 2008)
Yes, I just received notification via e-mail that I was nominated for another Music Award by the Orange County Music Awards Association, obviously in Orange County, California!… Wow, I hope I win, but it’ll be really hard. I know I’ve been doing this for a long time, but there are a lot of great people out there. I barely have a chance. I don’t even know what song was nominated (they didn’t tell me that in the e-mail, though you’d think they would). Well, only God knows what’ll happen. Thanks everyone for all your support!
The Song, “Why’d You Have To Go“, To Be Featured On The Treazy Radio Show Based In Brooklyn, NY! (February, 2008)
I was asked by the “Treazy Radio Show” (Treazy himself) if he could play the song, “Why’d You Have To Go”, on his Radio Show on Friday (February 22nd). I didn’t think much on it, but when I heard the broadcast… Wow! You don’t hear it until about a third the way through the broadcast (right after a volume lowered, hip hop version of the song, “Could It Be I’m Falling In Love”), and then they cut it, scratched it and mixed it with Chris Brown’s song (ironically I wrote this song for him). I got lots of accolades for it and you can hear the broadcast if you Click Here. The D.J. that played it was so excited that he stated on the broadcast that he was gonna play it in the Club that weekend! Listen to the show for yourself! I hope you enjoy it. Be sure to let me know what you think about the broadcast!
2 Music Award Nominations! (January, 2008)
I was nominated for 2 Inland Empire Music Awards (I.E.M.A.) for 2007. The songs were “Why’d You Have To Go” (Best R & B) and “Lindsay Park” (Best Blues). There was lots of talk going around regarding these 2 songs. I wrote the song “Why’d You Have To Go” originally for Chris Brown or Justin Timberlake. The song “Lindsay Park” was basically an anthem for the Co ops I grew up in called Lindsay Park Co ops, located in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Though I didn’t win, the music nominations prompted several calls from people, one being a Record Label and the others being typical producers. We’ll see what happens next.

great site…nice to meet you in person, sort of

Good Afternoon Reunald,
Just wanted to thank you for going the extra mile. And to say I have enjoyed your music even before I’ve listed. I was reading some of your bio and can tell that you play well like your ancestors before you. In the event you forgot the extra mile you took, it was with your job and not that Scorpion thing
You know the one. Again thanks and I will be sure to remain on time just because you’ve put your good reputation on the line.
